More than a stadium.

American Family Field (formerly known as Miller Park from 2001-2020), is a state-of-the-art baseball stadium in Milwaukee, WI, that is home to the Milwaukee Brewers. With its cutting-edge retractable roof, the stadium has become an iconic landmark within the city and a baseball destination within the U.S.

The journey to build American Family Field began over a decade before completion, starting in the late 1980s. Construction officially began in November 1996, marking the start of one of the largest construction projects in Wisconsin history. The stadium, replacing the locally revered Milwaukee County Stadium, was completed in time for the 2001 baseball season, boasting a price tag of $392 million.

The entire stadium bowl was created using a variety of precast elements from Wells that provided structural integrity and durability. The stadium has 70,000 cubic yards of concrete and 24,000 tons of structural steel.

The decision to use precast in the construction of the stadium was driven by its speed of construction to allow other trades in quickly, along with its inherent strengths and ease of maintenance. This choice guaranteed the stadium’s longevity and resilience against the rigors of constant use and weather extremes typical of southeastern Wisconsin. Additionally, precast elements seamlessly integrated with the revolutionary retractable roof technology, providing optimal protection and long-term functionality.

Wells also supplied precast bridge girders to upgrade the surrounding expressways and bridges that provide access to the stadium. This contribution not only ensured structural integrity and durability but also facilitated smoother traffic flow and improved accessibility to the iconic sports venue, further enhancing the overall fan experience.

American Family Field continues to stand the test of time, maintaining its pristine condition and serving as a multi-use facility for large crowds. In 2023, the Milwaukee Brewers officially extended their lease on the stadium until 2050, projecting the continued use of American Family Field for fifty years.

American Family Field represents more than just a baseball stadium; it embodies the spirit of innovation, durability and lasting community pride. From its inception to its ongoing legacy, the stadium stands as a shining example of exceptional craftsmanship and enduring quality, making it an integral part of Milwaukee’s identity for generations to come.
