A top-tier facility.

Ames in central Iowa is known for top-quality education from kindergarten to advanced degrees, and Ames High School routinely boasts the highest number of National Merit Scholar Finalists in the state. When it was time to replace the outdated high school, Wells worked with design team partners to develop a new facility to support Ames’ academic excellence mission.

The design challenged the team to implement a unique exterior pattern. Wells worked closely with the form liner manufacturer and OPN Architects to provide a solution using long-lasting and weather-resistant exterior materials while still achieving the inspired design aesthetic. The finished building envelope features hidden seams and a dynamic horizontal reveal in the panels.

The practice gymnasium also serves as an ICC 500-Compliant Storm Shelter, providing safety and security for all students and staff to fit inside. The structural wall panels are durable, load-bearing elements ideal for this vital space. With the efficient, durable, cost-effective and collaborative prefabricated building solutions provided by Wells, the Ames High School facility elevates the school district by providing spaces that support 21st century learning and a world class education.
