The E-470 Public Highway Authority, a leader in tolling and transportation innovation, required a new central maintenance facility to support their continued growth. Located across from the E-470 headquarters and service center, the new facility includes offices, service bays, wash bays, storage barns, plow storage, fueling stations, and more.
Wells provided prefabricated products for three of the four main buildings on the site, including the storage and maintenance facility, offices, and a multi-use building. The design team aimed to give the facility a highly architectural look, utilizing the broad aesthetic capabilities of prefabrication. Wells was able to incorporate the beauty of brick with the durability of precast, ensuring the design team's vision came to life.
One of this project's challenges was meeting the vehicle bays' specific measurements while maintaining a smooth continuation in the brick finish. Wells worked closely with the design team to implement a picture-framing method around the openings, allowing for a clean and crisp finish by creating a natural stopping point for the brick. Additionally, the project required the new brick to match a 30-year-old building with a similar architectural finish. Wells coordinated with a supplier to source bricks that matched the unique color and size of the original, ensuring a cohesive look across the facilities.
The result is a visually striking and highly functional maintenance facility that not only serves its purpose but enhances the architectural landscape of the E-470 complex.
